Wallace's Farrier Service

Correct Trimming & Shoeing for Balance & Performance

About the Farrier

Jim Wallace and his wife Julie moved from Dallas, TX, to Clark, SD, in August 2007 to be closer to family and friends.

Jim has more than 10 years of experience shoeing horses in New York State, New Jersey, California, New Mexico, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

In May 2007, Jim completed a course at the Oklahoma School of Horse Shoeing in Purcell, OK, under the tutelage of Jack Roth "the last US Army Farrier".

Directly after completing the course Jim was hired, by Jack Roth, to revise and write an instructor's manual designed to guide new instructors in teaching the Basic Horseshoers course at The Oklahoma School of Horseshoeing.

Jim's interest in the working horse, especially draft horses and their abilities, has led to his specialty in the caring, trimming and shoeing of working horses.

For the last few months, Jim has been studying the Natural Balance System of trimming and shoeing. This system was developed by Gene Ovnicek, (RJF/Clinician) of the Equine Digit Support System and the Equine Lameness Prevention Organization. By the use of this system, Jim shapes the hoof to mimic that of a feral horse.
